I’ve read many quotes about debt and money most of which are funny. Some of them though is quite inspirational. I thought I’d share them here with my readers:
- Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt. ~Herbert Hoover (American President, 1974-1964)
- Some are unwisely liberal, and more delight to give presents than to pay debts. ~Sir Philip Sidney quotes (English Statesman, 1554-1586)
- And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. ~The Bible (the correct translation of the Lord’s Prayer)
- Rather go to bed supperless, than rise in debt. ~Benjamin Franklin (American Statesman, Writer and Inventor, 1706-1790)
- A man in debt is so far a slave. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson (American Poet, 1803-1882).
- Debt, n. An ingenious substitute for the chain and whip of the slavedriver. ~Ambrose Bierce
- I’m in debt. I am a true American. ~Balki Bartokomous (TV Show “Perfect Strangers”)
- If you think nobody cares if you’re alive, try missing a couple of car payments. ~Earl Wilson
- The rich are different from you and me because they have more credit. ~John Leonard
- I hate this shallow Americanism which hopes to get rich by credit, to get knowledge by raps on midnight tables, to learn the economy of the mind by phrenology, or skill without study, or mastery without apprenticeship. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
- The modern banking system manufactures money out of nothing. The process is perhaps the most astounding piece of sleight-of-hand that was ever invented. Banking was conceived in inequity and born in sin… But if you want to continue to be slaves of the bankers and pay the cost of your own slavery, then let the bankers continue to create money and control credit. ~Josiah Charles Stamp
- A big part of financial freedom is having your heart and mind free from worry about the what-ifs of life. ~ Suze Orman
- A creditor is worse than a slave-owner; for the master owns only your person, but a creditor owns your dignity, and can command it. ~Victor Hugo
- We don’t have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven’t taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much. ~Ronald Reagen (American President)
- It would be easier to pay off the national debt overnight than to neutralize the long-range effects of our national stupidity. ~Frank Zappa (American Musician)
