For many years, consumers across the globe have been looking for ways to save money and to have more with less. In this economic crisis, it is even truer now.
With the rising energy prices and the possibility of cooler winters in many parts of the world in the futuer, the Alliance to Save Energy have predicted that this year, the average American household will have to spend $1,700 more on utility and gas pump than two years ago. The idea to use less and save more may no longer be enough.
Due to expected cooler winter, the cost of winter heating in 2009 was projected to have an increase of an average of 15% by the Energy Information Administration. This is also caused by higher energy costs.
This projection will of course vary. It depends on many things such as the characteristics of the space heated, the kind of fuel used for heating and where the consumer is located. 50% of American household are using natural gas as its fuel for heating. This group should expect an increase in heating cost by as much as 18%. However, household that are using oil may expect an increase even higher than that, which is 23%. Those using electricity and propane will have to shell out about 10% to 11% more.
Due to the sophistication of technology, there is now a great options for energy saving devices. In the past, people were concerned about the cost of these devices while the amount of energy saved did not really justify the price. But in today’s setup, a lot of improvements on the efficiency of those energy devices has been made. With the threat of a cooling economy, energy saving devices are once again in focus. Here are some saving energy suggestions to help you save money on energy usage in this lukewarm Economy.
Solar heaters – this device provides heating for both space and water. Solar heaters are definite money saver. But of course it also depends on the type of solar heater that is used, whether it is a part of the structure of the home or one that engages the use of mechanical device. This device is also environment friendly.
Electrical saving devices. These devices are plugged into your socket and are supposed to stabilize the flow of your electric current. This will reduce the volume of energy that you consume. There is one limitation to these devices though. These devices can only control a specific volume of wattage, say 3000 watts, at any given time. If your uses more than the wattage capacity that the device could handle, another device should be plugged in.
Also, there are other small energy saving devices such as light bulbs, lamps, heaters, appliances and other gizmos and gadgets.
Saving energy is fast becoming the order of the day taking into account the current realities. Not just for the sake of saving energy but also saving money. If you find that all the energy saving devices out there is not enough, you will still see that the “use less and save more” principle adds a good deal to your savings.

Active solar heaters like the cansolair from Canada can really take a BIG bite out of your heating costs. Unlike most solar devices a solar heater has a payback period of weeks and not years. A solar heater that costs $800 could cut the cost of heating an average mobile home by 40 percent.
