As the US economy is experiencing tough and stressful times for the past years, the Federal government has come up with plans to help increase the ‘affordability’ of the people. One of the first steps to do this was the introduction for the Stimulus Package by Obama. The idea is to help homeowners save their homes from foreclosure.
In addition to this, the Federal government are offering free home repair grants and home improvement grants. Below are the details.
Free Home Repairs Grants
To get an idea of what your local government can offer you, simply visit your City Hall. There are many types of grants available and some of them would help you obtain enough money to rehabilitate or expand your home. Ask for the US Housing and Urban Development department and they will be able to provide you with the information you would need regarding these free grants. They will also assist you financially. Of course there are certain guidelines that you must meet which vary from state to state. Your local county office will also be able to help you in this matter.
Home Improvement Grants
If you have been affected by natural disasters, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is the one to contact for financial help. To apply for these grants, visit the local official website of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department for information and application. Both the HUD and the FHA (Federal Housing Administration) can help you get these grants. The other option is to contact the local municipality for these home improvement grants. These are especially available for the senior citizens.
There are countless other grants opportunities by the government. Just go to the official website for more information about these opportunities: Grants.gov.

Not very many people are aware that there are such grants to help fix homes. Weatherization is one of those grants, and that program has helped thousands of homes across the nation already.

I really hope that this works out the way it has been intended. I’m just worried about the costs of all this and whether the people who really need the help will actually get it.

What home improvement, home renovation and home restoration grants should I apply for if I live in upstate NY?

In Canada, the Home Renovation Tax Credit, a non-refundable tax credit based on eligible expenses for improvements to your house, condo or cottage, allows Canadians to put our tax dollars back into our home.
