I took a student loan to after matriculating from a JC. As I finished my lower division requirements at the University, the University stated one of my courses from the JC was not being accepted. I wasnt allowed to enroll in ANY upperdivision classes until this lower division class was completed. Since it was filled for the next semester, I had to go to a different JC to complete it.

Eventually I left the University altogether, incurred 22k in loans, now of which is around $40k, and dont ever intend to pay it back. I can't say i feel guilty in the least bit. I will eventually leave this country and I would suggest you do the same as I did until someone can fix these predators.

My husband's students loans have crushed us financially. My husband declared bankruptcy before I knew him because of them and these loans were not dismissed.

@Rick - if you haven't been there, you wouldn't understand. My husband went to medical school. Our student loan payment is equal to a huge mortgage. The principle never goes down. Colleges make you think education is the way for financial security but when that doesn't materialize for everyone, you're screwed.

Really?
If you can't figure out a loan's terms and if you can pay it back you shouldn't be going to college in the first place.
A little personal responsibility feels more appropriate here than a federal government hand out.
