China Now the Second Largest Economy After the US, Beating Japan

China just inched ahead of Japan, making it the second largest economy after the US. It is predicted that although China is still behind the US, it will not be long until the US will be number two. Economists are predicting that it will take them less than 20 years to do so.

Answering the question what it would be like to have China as the largest economy, Dr. Adam Posen, a Senior Fellow of Peterson Institute for International Economics said, “Well, you would wander around large parts of China and see parts of China that, in terms of development and technology, look exactly identical to U.S. cities. Second, there would be a sense of this international buzz, not just at these summits and G-20 meetings but, you know, just in terms of the Olympics.”

    Makes you wonder how much of that economy would grind to a halt if folks stopped buying wares made there that are avaialble in the Wallmarts of the world.
